Sealevel Opiates Statement
The use of opioids as a method of pain alleviation can be safely administered in the case of patients receiving palliative care, hospice, or short-term treatment of severe acute pain. In these situations, opiates are highly effective method of easing pain and pose little threat in leading patients to addiction. Unfortunately, there is often a limited supply of these medications in developing nations. Similarly, Western nations’ accessibility varies for specialists trained in pain management, hospice and palliative care. This disparity in access subsequently contributes to preventable suffering of patients in these circumstances.
Sealevel provides integrative care for patients in order to alleviate chronic pain, address function, and improve quality of life. Adverse effects of opiates are more likely to emerge when they are taken as a means of long term management for chronic pain. For this reason, the clinic does not currently prescribe opiates for our patients. Sealevel focuses on combining various therapies and non-opioid medications to offer our patients relief. In addition, this approach is offered as additional support for palliative care patients that may already be prescribed opiates
